President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is optimistic about the impending improvements at Manila’s airport, marking a significant step in the comprehensive rehabilitation project valued at PhP170.6 billion, designed to ease the return of Filipinos.
Speaking to the Filipino community in Brunei Darussalam, President Marcos emphasized the importance of the ambitious airport upgrade initiative, which aims to enhance passenger terminals, airside facilities, and facilitate smooth transfers.
Underlining the urgency of the matter, President Marcos pointed out the neglect suffered by Manila’s airport under previous administrations, resulting in unfavorable international evaluations.
“Pagbalik po ninyo sa Pilipinas, we hope to also welcome you to a new and upgraded Manila International Airport,” President Marcos shared during his dialogue with the Filipino community in Brunei Darussalam, part of his two-day visit to the Sultanate
With a substantial budget of 170.6 billion pesos earmarked for the initiative, the focus is on overhauling passenger terminals and airside facilities, alongside facilitating seamless inter-terminal transfers and improving connectivity to provincial bus terminals.
President Marcos outlined a 15-year timeline for the project’s implementation, with initial enhancements expected as early as next year. He reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development as a means to spur economic growth and employment.
Moreover, President Marcos pledged to transition to renewable energy sources, including wind, geothermal, biomass, wave, and hydroelectric power, to ensure rapid energy restoration following natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and floods.
President Marcos’s visit to Brunei Darussalam aims to fortify the longstanding bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brunei, established over 40 years ago, with formalization on January 1, 1984.
