Viva One’s adaptation of Beeyotch’s hit Wattpad novel Dating Alys Perez has been serving a huge dose of kilig, tension, and heartache week after week since its June 12 premiere. Fans of Rabin Angeles and Angela Muji (better known as the “RabGel” love team) have been on an emotional roller coaster, but who’s complaining?
Alys Perez (Muji) is in a loving relationship with Tripp Palma (Zeke Polina), who happens to be the cousin of Drake Palma (Angeles), the man who once broke her heart. With Tripp, Alys feels safe and she’s even starting to entertain the idea of getting married. But Drake has come back into her life.
Drake tricks Alys into believing that he’s getting married to Christine (Julienne Rosello), even enlisting her to make their wedding cake. In truth, he is hell-bent on winning Alys back. And he doesn’t hide it either. At one point, he arrogantly suggests they should get back together since he’s the one who’s right in front of her while Tripp is in New York.
Tough luck for Drake because Alys swears to never fall for him again. In one of the series’ most emotional and powerful scenes, she utters the words that feel like a dagger to the heart: “Loving you was a mistake.”
Just like that, Dating Alys Perez has reached its midseason, bringing more tears and conflicts, with one character falling into a coma. Every episode is guaranteed to bring all the feels.
In a sneak peek of the upcoming episode, Drake taunts Tripp, asking, “Sigurado ka bang masaya si Alys sa ‘yo?” (Are you sure that Alys is happy with you?)
That’s Drake’s desperation talking, but it does raise an important question: Amid all this fighting for love and affection, who or what will truly make Alys Perez happy in the end?
Under the guidance of award-winning director Crisanto B. Aquino (My Future You, A Werewolf Boy, Seducing Drake Palma), Muji, Angeles, and Polina have significantly improved in the portrayal of their characters. Fans online are full of praise for the intensity of their performances. One confrontation scene between Alys and Drake has even gone viral on TikTok, as users began using its audio clip in their own videos.
On YouTube, viewers were equally impressed by Polina’s performance, with many leaving comments praising his acting under the video Tripp’s Heart Is Breaking Too. In the scene, Zeke vents his frustration after Alys confesses that Drake is about to propose to her. His anguish is palpable as he asks, “Alam ko mahal mo ako, lagi mo sa aking sinasabi. Pero tapatin mo ako, ako lang ba ang mahal mo?” He then punctuates the emotional confrontation with a grimacing demand: “Sagot!” One fan commented, “I was about to cry, his acting is peak. Love you, Zeke,” accompanied by heart and fire emojis.
As the story of Alys, Drake, and Tripp continues, viewers will surely be moved by the emotional highs and lows of their journey. Catch the remaining episodes of Dating Alys Perez on Viva One. Streaming until August.
