Fashion is more than just wearing stylish clothes. That’s one bold statement from fashion icon Raymond Gutierrez when asked by TatakMNL during his recent solo media conference.
For him, fashion is about knowing yourself, showing your personality, and being confident in the way you present yourself.

TatakMNL asked Raymond for his advice to individuals who want to pursue fashion seriously. The television host and fashion personality — who is returning to the local TV scene via Bilyonaryo News Channel’s primetime news program ‘Agenda’ — emphasized that style should come from a person’s authentic self rather than simply following trends.
“In order to get into fashion and take it seriously, I think you have to know your sense of style,” Raymond shared. “You really can’t be swayed by trend so much. Kailangan alam mo yung sarili mo. Ano yung bagay sa ‘yo? Ano yung gusto mong iparating sa mundo.”
He continued, “Kasi for me, fashion is a way of communicating kung sino ka, ‘di ba? Yun ang unang nakikita ng tao pagpasok mo sa isang kwarto. ‘Yon kaagad yung nakikita ng tao eh — is how you present yourself.”
He also highlighted the importance of dressing appropriately for every occasion while remaining confident in one’s choices. Beyond garments and accessories, Raymond stressed that confidence and communication complete a person’s overall presence.
“For me, it’s very important to dress for the occasion. So kailangan alam mo yung sarili mo, confident ka sa sinusuot mo — the way you carry yourself, and it goes beyond just the clothing. It’s your confidence [and] of course, the way you communicate. So it’s all part of the package.”
Ultimately, Raymond’s message to aspiring fashion enthusiasts is clear: before investing in trends or building a wardrobe, one must first understand their own identity. “So I think number one rule is know yourself first.”
