The Asia’s Diamond Soul Siren opened up about how the meaning behind one of her most beloved songs has evolved over the years, revealing that Love Moves in Mysterious Ways now holds a much deeper and more personal significance.

Speaking during a press conference in Pasig City on July 6, Nina recalled how she first interpreted the song when she recorded it. She said it reminded her of the unpredictability of love.
“Yung ‘Love Moves in Mysterious Ways’ no’ng una kong kinanta parang ang dating sa akin is yung parang hindi mo alam when love is gonna come e. Kumbaga sobrang minsan pag hinahanap mo siya lalong mailap, lalong hindi siya darating sa ‘yo. Pero kapag hindi mo hinahanap… biglang ang dami. Nandiyan na lang, love, it’s everywhere ganon. So, yun yung meaning sa akin before.”
For Nina, the song initially reflected the idea that love arrives when it’s least expected—often when a person stops looking for it.
Years later, however, the song has taken on an entirely new meaning. Rather than seeing it solely as a song about romantic love, Nina now considers Love Moves in Mysterious Ways a heartfelt tribute to the unwavering support she has received from her fans throughout the years.
“Ngayon it’s still that pero at the same time ang meaning na sa akin for me is it’s actually my theme song for everyone. Kumbaga love song ko na yan sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta sa akin. Kasi sobrang misteryoso rin yung pagmamahal nila sa akin na hanggang ngayon nandiyan pa rin sila. And umuusbong [at] dumadami yung nagmamahal sa akin… So yun na yung meaning sa akin ngayon — that your love, everybody’s love for me is very mysterious and I love it.”
Although Love Moves in Mysterious Ways is widely associated with Nina, it is actually a cover of the original recording by British singer-songwriter Julia Fordham. Fordham recorded the song for the 1991 romantic comedy The Butcher’s Wife, starring Demi Moore and Jeff Daniels. Over the years, however, Nina’s rendition has become one of the most recognizable versions of the ballad, cementing it as one of her signature hits.

Nina shared her reflections during the press conference for NINA XX: The Anniversary Celebration – The Repeat, set for September 24 at 8 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Joining the Asia’s Diamond Soul Siren onstage are special guests Christian Bautista, Top Suzara, and Thor. The concert is produced by EchoJham and Synth X, with tickets now available through TicketWorld.
