Crossing from films, TV shows, and commercial to theater, Juan Carlos Galano makes an exciting dip into the world of stage plays as he debuts as Dodong in the 2023 edition of in Zsazsa Zaturnnah: The Musical… Yun lang with Kim Molina as Zsazsa Zaturnnah. The play is open to the public today, March 17 until April 2 at the Doreen Fernandez Black Box Theater, Arete, Ateneo De Manila University.
Juan Carlos Galano is making his own name in the industry after consecutive projects . He starred in the MMFF 2021 entry “Nelia” top-billed by Winwyn Marquez. He was also seen in various Kapuso shows such as Daddy’s Gurl, Raya Sirena, as well Regal Studios Presents ‘My Third Wish’ and ‘Mother of the Groom’. He is also popular as a hunk model of a clothing brand with multiple billboards around Metro Manila and on social media.
We met him during a pocket media conference at Panda Café in Tomas Morato this week. JC excitedly shared how he got the part of Dodong and what his understanding of his character is. “I read for the part, but mostly I was invited,” he shared. “Unang-una, my take on it was akala ko nga, una, parang one0dimensional character lang… he’s the pogi of the town, the desirable character… kumbaga he’s the apple of the eye of the town, but he’s more than that apparently. Yung character ni Dodong is an integral part para sa pag-resolve ng story at ng trauma ni Ada,” he added.
In the musical play, Ada is the human alterego of the superhero Zsazsa Zaturnnah. JC also shared that the production team was looking for his qualities for the character of Dodong. And he has been taking voice lessons as preparations for the musical. Was it hard adjusting from film acting to theater acting?

Here’s what he had to say: “So yung pressure lang din, saka challenge talaga kasi, coming from films, headspace! Tapos parang adjusting to the methods of theater… of stage acting.” He added, “Sabi naman ng director namin ngayon in theater [Philippine Theater Actors Guild (TAG) President Missy Maramara], hindi naman na kailangan… lakihan yung pag-arte but just be truthful and urgent with your movements. So I’ve been taking those into accounts especially in rehearsals.”
