Walong Libong Piso is a simple but brave stage play that delivers a clear message: don’t trust people too easily. With only one actor on stage, the show takes a big risk—but it works, thanks to a strong performance and clear direction.
Opening the run of Bentria Productions’ first foray into theater, Paolo Gumabao did a great job in his stage debut. He acted with confidence and gave a fearless performance. Some scenes were daring, and he gave his full effort, surprising the audience and earning strong reactions. His presence helped set the tone for the entire play.

Though primarily a one-man show (with one actor handling most of the performance and dialogue), the production takes a bold creative risk. Brief appearances by characters like his mother, along with off-stage voices, offer minimal support. Despite this, the play still works well, largely because of Paolo Gumabao’s strong performance as one of the four actors alternating in the lead role.
The direction and stage design were also handled well. Paolo’s movement around the stage made the small space feel larger. The simple setup didn’t feel boring, thanks to the smart way everything was planned and staged.
However, some lines were too long and could have been simpler. A few scenes also felt a bit slow or repetitive. Still, this might have been part of writer-director Dante Balboa’s intention, as the play mixes fiction with real-life experiences.
In the end, Walong Libong Piso is a bold and honest play. It shows Paolo Gumabao’s potential in theater and proves that even a simple setup can make a strong impact when done with heart.
Other actors alternating in the role are Jhon Mark Marcia, Drei Arias, and Juan Paolo Calma.
