This July, VMX brings two bold and emotional stories about women who take back their power in difficult situations. Maalikaya and Tusok Tusok show what it means to survive, fight back, and find freedom—even in the darkest places.
Maalikaya
Directed by Roman Perez Jr., Maalikaya tells the story of Kara (Aliya Raymundo), a 19-year-old girl forced to marry for her family’s business. But during their honeymoon, a tragic accident almost kills her husband. Kara is blamed and sent to a women’s prison.
In jail, Kara meets other young women who welcome her into their group. One of them is Lila (Jenn Rosa), who becomes Kara’s close friend—and later, her first love. For the first time, Kara feels cared for and free.

But prison life hides a dark secret. Kara finds out that some inmates are being used to please rich clients. Some are even taken out of prison to earn money this way.
As Kara starts to explore her desires and a new kind of life, she’s pulled into this secret world—encouraged by the same people who helped her survive. Just as she begins to enjoy her freedom, someone from her past returns and threatens to take it all away.
Maalikaya is a story of pain, discovery, and fighting for your own voice. Now streaming only on VMX.
Tusok Tusok
Directed by Ronald Espinosa Batallones, Tusok Tusok follows Barbie (Sahara Bernales), a street food vendor trying to survive every day. She sells grilled pork and barbeque while taking care of her younger sister Tanya (Queenie de Mesa). They live in a small house with Bogart (JC Tan), Barbie’s abusive and drug-addicted partner.

Barbie works hard, but Bogart controls her life. She doesn’t know that he has started to target Tanya, the one person she’s trying to protect the most.
In their poor neighborhood, many people use sex to survive, and danger is always around the corner. But when Bogart finally goes too far, Barbie is pushed to do something she never imagined.
Tusok Tusok is a story about standing up, even when the world tells you to stay quiet. Streaming on VMX starting July 29.
