Movie review: ‘Unconditional’ stars Rhian Ramos, Allen Dizon in a tender story of love beyond boundaries

Unconditional is a heartfelt film that explores how love knows no boundaries—regardless of who you are or where you come from. It’s a brave and tender story that offers a much-needed representation of LGBTQ+ experiences, something still rarely seen in the local film scene.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Siargao, the film follows Anna (Rhian Ramos), a social media manager escaping a political scandal. In the island’s quiet charm, she meets Greg (Allen Dizon), a soft-spoken local devoted to caring for his ailing mother. As their connection grows, Anna discovers Greg is a trans man—pushing her to reevaluate her beliefs and what it really means to love someone without conditions.

Rhian Ramos continues to prove why she’s one of today’s most reliable actresses. Her performance is sincere, grounded, and emotionally resonant. Allen Dizon also delivers a strong performance, portraying Greg with quiet strength and vulnerability.

One standout to watch out for is Allen Dizon’s powerful scene where he bares it all. It’s one of the film’s most emotionally charged moments—delivered with raw honesty and depth.

The film also benefits from strong performances by seasoned actors such as Lotlot De Leon, Elizabeth Oropesa, and Joel Lamangan, as well as Rico Barrera, Paolo Gumabao, and Brandon Ramirez—each lending weight and presence to their roles.

The film is visually beautiful. The cinematography shows the peaceful beauty of Siargao, making the island feel like part of the story.

Director Adolf Alix Jr. brings it all together with clarity and restraint. With Unconditional, he delivers a story that’s honest, timely, and necessary—told with care, sensitivity, and purpose.

This Pride Month, Unconditional invites us to reflect on the true meaning of love—one that accepts, embraces, and never judges. Don’t miss this moving and timely film, opening in cinemas nationwide on June 25 from BR Film Productions.
