Carmi Martin, Jaime Fabregas share their secrets to longevity in showbiz

Veteran actors Carmi Martin and Jaime Fabregas opened up during a press conference for their movie about what has kept them going strong in the entertainment industry after decades of work. Their insights point to a mix of passion, discipline, and constant growth.

For Carmi Martin, longevity comes from knowing her strengths—but also recognizing areas where she can improve. “Yung sa akin kasi, nakikita ko na ang forte ko is comedy,” she shared. “Kasi lumaki ako do’n kina Nova Villa, Tito Dolphy… so until now I’m doing acting workshop.”

She pointed out that maintaining her youthful appearance takes real effort and dedication. “Sinabi niyo nga, pinuna niyo yung physical ko, ‘Wow, ikaw you never age,’ kasi tinatrabaho ko.” But beyond appearance, Carmi remains committed to evolving her craft. “Pero pagdating do’n sa acting, alam ko na may kulang pa ako sa drama. So, gusto ko talagang tumawid ng drama and comedy… So until now, even at my age, hindi ko tinitigil yung learning,” she said.

She also noted the importance of professionalism on set: “At malaking bagay din yung you come prepared at saka hindi maiinis sa ‘yo yung producer… You come prepared, marunong kang makisama, pagkatapos meron ka pang maibibigay.”

Meanwhile, Jaime Fabregas takes a more straightforward approach: love what you do. “Nag-e-enjoy ako sa trabaho e. I have fun every time I’m doing a role,” he said. “It’s what I like doing e. Yun yung naging buhay ko. I suppose that’s how you stay on for the longest time.”

Beyond mindset, Jaime also stressed the value of taking care of oneself: “You keep yourself healthy, eat the right kind of food, sleep well, and then enjoy your work. And I suppose pag gano’n ay tatagal ka.”

Both Carmi Martin and Jaime Fabregas will be seen on the big screen in the upcoming fantasy-historical film Isang Komedya sa Langit. They will be starring alongside Edgar Allan Guzman, Gene Padilla, Aki Blanco, John Medina, and more.

Produced by Kapitana Entertainment Media and based on Rossana Hwang’s novel The Lost Saints, the film follows three priests—Jaime Fabregas, Edgar Allan Guzman, and Gene Padilla—who mysteriously travel through time from 1872 to 2024. Set against a rich backdrop of history and imagination, the story explores themes of faith, destiny, and the collision between past and present in a compelling blend of historical drama and fantasy.

Catch Isang Komedya sa Langit starting May 28 in select cinemas nationwide.
