Iñigo Pascual returns to Philippine cinemas with a powerful performance in Fatherland, the latest drama film now showing in theaters nationwide. In this new project, Iñigo takes on one of his most emotionally demanding roles yet, a sharp turn from the lighthearted love team projects he was previously known for.
“Dito sa proyektong ‘to, actually sobrang gipit kami sa oras. I mean, I had to go back to the States. So, we had to really finish a lot of the scenes during the days that we we’re working,” Iñigo shared during a quick talkback after the celebrity premiere of the movie.
Adding to the challenge was the emotional whiplash the scenes demanded—some were lighthearted, followed immediately by intense dramatic moments.
“So alam mo yung parang sabi ko ‘Handa ba ako dito? Handa ba akong gawin ‘to.’ ‘Coz all my projects before — love team, pa-cute… I’m not used to doing heavy scenes. If you noticed almost I think 70% of the movie I’m crying,” he said.
Working under the direction of award-winning filmmaker Joel Lamangan, Iñigo found himself pushed to go deeper into his emotions and explore the limits of his craft.
“Si Direk Joel talaga yung nag-push sa akin na ibigay yung lahat ng instructions, ibigay lahat ng emosyon na kailangan kong ibigay. Kung saan ako nanggaling, ano yung pinanggalingan ng character ko. Siguro yung first sa akin is just being able to do scenes that I never knew I could do.”
Though now based in the United States, Iñigo made it clear that the Philippines remains his home base — both personally and professionally. Asked if he’s still open to working on local projects, his answer was definite.
“Para sa akin, kung Direk Joel ‘yon, syempre uuwi ako para don,” Iñigo quipped. “I go back and forth, it’s not like I’m staying in the States forever. I still like to be here in the Philippines. This is where my life is. This is where my family is. So, sa akin I’m glad that I get to do projects in the State and I get to do projects here. But I would still prioritize my work here.”
In Fatherland, Iñigo Pascual brings sincerity and quiet intensity to his role. His portrayal of a son seeking answers feels raw and grounded, allowing the audience to experience the journey alongside him.
With Fatherland, Iñigo Pascual not only showcases his growth as an actor but also his continuing commitment to telling meaningful Filipino stories.
