MTRCB reminds PUV operators on Holy Week travel: Show only “G” and “PG” rated content

As travelers head to different provinces this Holy Week, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has issued a fresh reminder to Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers: only films and shows rated “G” (General Patronage) and “PG” (Parental Guidance) are allowed to be shown inside PUVs.

This directive is in accordance with MTRCB Memorandum Circular No. 03-2024, which treats common carriers such as buses and other PUVs as “movie theaters” when it comes to the board’s regulatory scope.

By reinforcing this rule, the MTRCB aims to ensure that passengers, especially children and families, are protected from content that may not be age-appropriate during their travels.

According to Chapter III Section 2 of the said law, because of its character and accessibility regardless of age, “common carriers and other public places can only exhibit such motion pictures and/or trailers classified by the Board as for G or PG.”

This ensures that content remains appropriate and has no negative impact on minors traveling with their families.

“Our commitment is to ensure that the content shown in PUVs is safe for all passengers, particularly children traveling with their families,” said Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio, emphasizing that this is part of the Board’s wider responsibility to provide a safe, secure and enjoyable travel experience for everyone.

Passengers are encouraged to report violations through the MTRCB official social media channels @MTRCBGov or via email at complaints@mtrcb.gov.ph.

Legal action will be taken against violators in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 1986 and Chapter XIII of the 2004 Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations.
