Kapuso actress Rhian Ramos, now one of the brightest stars in Philippine showbiz, surprised bloggers during a block screening of her new movie Sinagtala, where she opened up about a childhood dream she never thought she’d get to live out—until now.
Long before landing roles in primetime series and films, Rhian Ramos dreamed not of lights and cameras, but of drumsticks and band practice.
“When I was in high school… I joined band club. I actually auditioned for drums and I joined theater club, and then when it was time to choose, sa theater club pa rin ako napunta. Although I did get in, which means my audition passed,” she shared.
It was this dream that pulled her into the role of a drummer in Sinagtala, a story centered around friendship, passion, and second chances.
“What made me say yes to the role, I think first and foremost when it was pitched in 2019, I was excited because she’s a drummer. And that’s like is my childhood dream that I never really got to live out,” she revealed.
Rhian also shared a little-known detail about how her showbiz journey began—not as an aspiring actress, but as a teen saving up for a drum set.
“The whole reason why I got into showbiz in the first place was because, first I did a commercial just so that I could afford to buy a drum set. And then it was that commercial that got me the phone call to audition for Captain Barbell. So it was my first commercial which I only did just for the drum set. That’s the only reason why I did it. And it changed my path. So now, being able to play kahit sa role man lang if I get to be a drummer, that’s still living out my childhood dream.”
Beyond the screen, the role rekindled Rhian’s passion for music in real life. “And actually, because of this movie tinituloy ko na, and tinutuloy namin. Me and my bandmates have a chatroom and we always message each other like ‘Guys, tugtog tayo ulit.’ Kasi it’s fun,” she said with a smile.
“We ended up realizing that there’s more ways to explore our chemistry with each other na, as actor we love to explore that in an emotional way pero nakakatuwa din yung just to get one song done and performed and we’re all playing at the same time, sa tamang timing at sa tamang vibe… That takes another kind of chemistry na in that 3 minutes and 30 seconds pala, ang daming nangyayari sa inyo, sa tinginan niyo… It’s very difficult to explain I guess without doing it but that’s what really drew me to the role. It’s the idea of living out my childhood dream,” she continued.
In Sinagtala, Rhian plays a musician whose life was once defined by the band of the same name—a group full of heart, talent, and dreams. The band once thrived with youthful energy, but as the years passed and life happened, they slowly drifted apart. They reunite years later, drawn back by the one person who once held them together: Paola, their former leader, now facing the end of her life but refusing to let go of the music—or the bond—they once shared.
Rhian Ramos stars alongside Glaiza De Castro, Raver Cruz, Matt Lozano, and Arci Muñoz in this moving story about music, memories, and the kind of friendships that never truly fade. Directed by Mike Sandejas, the film is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
With Sinagtala, Rhian Ramos doesn’t just take on another role—she embraces the one dream that started it all.
