For veteran actor Allen Dizon, every role still comes with a challenge and a sense of nervousness—no matter how long he’s been in the industry.
“Every time naman na meron akong role na gagawin, laging may challenge at tsaka laging may kaba,” he shared. “Yung iba sinasabi nila kapag matagal ka nang artista — relax ka na lang, hindi ka na kinakabahan sa mga eksena — hindi totoo ‘yun e,” Allen said during the press conference of his new social drama movie Fatherland on March 25 in Manila.
Dizon will be taking on a triple role in Fatherland, where he plays a father struggling with multiple disorders, while also confronting pressing societal issues such as land grabbing, Muslim separatism, and the POGO issue.
Despite his extensive experience in the industry, Dizon emphasized his ongoing dedication to each role, noting that he always collaborates closely with his directors, particularly Direk Joel Lamangan, who is helming Fatherland.
“So every time na may ginagawa akong pelikula, nag-iisip ako kung paano ‘yung gagawin ko doon sa eksena, and always na nagtatanong ako kay Direk Joel kung paano ‘yung gusto niya. Kasi baka iba ‘yung gusto ko, iba ‘yung gusto ni Direk,” he explained.
He also stressed that filmmaking is a collective effort where listening and adapting are crucial to delivering a performance that fits the overall story.
“Acting is a teamwork din lalo na sa pelikula. Kasi hindi pwedeng mag-iba ka, baka lumihis ka e. Iba pa din ‘yung may guidance ka ni Direk. And kung ano ‘yung gusto kong gawin, sasabihin ko rin sa kanya. At kung may gusto si Direk na gawin ko, siyempre gagawin ko rin para sa ikakaganda ng pelikula.”
In Fatherland, Dizon stars alongside Inigo Pascual, who plays his son searching for him after being abducted by his mother at the age of seven. The film also features seasoned actors and actresses, including Cherry Pie Picache, Angel Aquino, Max Eigenmann, Mercedes Cabral, Richard Yap, Jim Pebanco, Kazel Kinouchi, Abed Green, Rico Barrera, and Bo Bautista.
Directed by the award-winning Joel Lamangan, Fatherland is produced by Bentria Productions and Heaven’s Best Entertainment. The movie is set to premiere on April 19 in cinemas nationwide.
