“It was such a long line. I remember 5,000 auditionees that day. I was number 3,900-something. So, I lined up from 9 AM to 5 AM the next day,” Kapuso actress Gabbi Garcia recalled during a press conference on March 1, reflecting on her Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) audition experience.
From being a hopeful auditionee to becoming one of the newest hosts of Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition, Gabbi reflected on how her journey with the show came full circle.
“I auditioned for PBB Teen Edition Season 4, the one where Myrtle [Sarrosa] won, i think. So, ang nangyari no’n, I’ve been such a fan of PBB, I grew up watching PBB to the piont na, kasi late night siya pinapalabas, nagpapaalam ako sa parents ko na ‘pwede po bang mag-extend ng bedtime so I can watch and finish the whole episode,” Gabbi shared, recalling how her love for the show inspired her to audition.
“When they announced on TV, so, literally, I was a kid watching the television. In my room, I saw ‘PBB’ audition na meron. Pwede kang pumila, kahit sino. Niyaya ko na kaagad ‘yung mommy ko. Sabi ko, ‘Mommy, I wanna to line up, and I wanna join.’ So, I lined up, that was in Mall of Asia,” she added.
Gabbi was one of the hopefuls who lined up for a chance to enter Bahay ni Kuya. She was around number 3,900 and waited in line from 9 AM to 5 AM the next day, showing her dedication to the process.
Gabbi reminisced, “Yes, ganon siya ka-intense. 9 AM to 5 AM the next day, and I had to go to school. Nakakaloka! Pinapagalitan na ako ng mommy ko. Pero kasi I really wanted talaga. I was so curious as a kid to see what’s really going on inside the house.”
“And luckily, I got in the first screening. On the second screening, it was here na, inside the Bahay of Kuya. Hindi na ako na-bless na maka-pasok after that,” she continued.
Now, years later, Gabbi finds herself not as a housemate but as one of PBB’s newest hosts—a role she describes as a full-circle moment.
“So today, it’s such a full-circle moment for me to be able to audition, how many years ago. And then right now, I’m standing in front of you as a host. It’s such a full circle.”
Grateful for the opportunity, she thanked GMA and ABS-CBN for trusting her with this role. She also expressed excitement about meeting the housemates and seeing the iconic PBB house up close.
“I’m so humbled and I’m so grateful for this opportunity. I’m thankful to the bosses of GMA, of ABS-CBN for considering me to be part of this history. And I’m really excited to get to know all the housemates [and] to get to see the house.
“And abangan pa natin kung ano mangyayari sa akin sa takdang panahon. Hindi natin alam kung ano ang mangyayari. Si Kuya na ang bahala.”
