It has been a long time since I last watched a family-oriented animated movie, and Buffalo Kids instantly brought back a sense of nostalgia. This heartwarming film is a perfect choice for a cinema outing with the whole family. With just the right blend of humor, adventure, and heartfelt moments, it’s a movie that kids will love and parents will appreciate.

The story follows Irish orphans Tom and Mary as they journey to the U.S. in the 19th century to find their uncle Niall. When he doesn’t meet them at the docks, they set off with their stray dog, Sparky, and sneak onto a train with other orphans. Along the way, Mary befriends Nick, a boy with disabilities who was rejected by a potential family. Their caretaker, Eleanor, discovers their situation but promises to protect them.
During a stop, Mary, Tom, and Nick leave the train to see a buffalo, but it departs without them. This marks the beginning of an unexpected adventure—one filled with challenges, danger, and the pursuit of family.
Buffalo Kids beautifully highlights themes of friendship and resilience. Tom and Mary’s loving and supportive relationship is one of the film’s greatest strengths, offering a refreshing portrayal of siblings. Their friendship with Nick reinforces the values of kindness, perseverance, and teamwork. Nick’s character, in particular, represents strength and resourcefulness, proving that disabilities do not define a person’s worth or capabilities. The film also embraces diversity and inclusion, showing that true strength comes from unity and compassion.
Visually, Buffalo Kids is a treat. Its vibrant yet simple animation looks stunning on the big screen, immersing viewers in breathtaking landscapes and exciting action sequences. With rich details and a captivating world, the film creates an experience that children will adore and families will remember.

Directed by Gabo Galdochi and produced by Pedro Solis, Buffalo Kids showcases outstanding performances from Alisha Weir, Conor MacNeill, Gemma Arterton, Sean Bean, and Stephen Graham.
The film garnered widespread attention following its premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2024 and it has also become a family favorite all over Europe and Asia.
Brought to the Philippines by Nathan Studios, Buffalo Kids arrives in cinemas nationwide on February 12.
