Dr. Cecilio Pedro, Filipino at Tsino Magkaibigan Foundation donate thousands to Tondo fire victims

In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion and solidarity, the Filipino at Tsino Magkaibigan Foundation, spearheaded by Dr. Cecilio K. Pedro, President of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), distributed thousands of rice packs and clothing to fire victims in Isla Puting Bato, Tondo, Manila, on December 3.

This charitable initiative underscores the foundation’s unwavering commitment to uplifting the Filipino community, particularly during the holiday season.

During the charity event, Dr. Pedro reflected on the deeper meaning of Christmas and the importance of extending help to those in need.

He said during an interview where TatakMNL was present: “Kailangan tumulong e… Christmas is about giving. It’s about love… taking care of each other, including those na nahihirapan, na kailangan ng tulong.

He also emphasized the deep connection between the Filipino and Chinese communities, grounded in shared values and a common desire to help the Philippines prosper.

“In the spirit of Christmas, we have to be here,” he continued. “Another story is we want to make sure and deliver it to the Filipino community. Kami, may dugong Tsino, pero [ang] puso namin [ay] Pilipino. Kami po ay tumutulong sa Pilipino, at Pilipino kaming lahat. Ako’y pinanganak dito sa Pilipinas. Dito na rin siguro ako mamamatay. Ito ang bayan namin, so ito ang dapat tulungan namin. That’s the most important message we want to deliver.”

Dr. Pedro lauded the collective efforts of 32 Filipino-Chinese associations and organizations that collaborated for this cause, highlighting the importance of solidarity in nation-building. He called on every Filipino to contribute to the country’s progress:

“Kailangan umunlad ang bayan. Bayan muna bago lahat. Lahat po tayo makakatulong. Bawat isang Pilipino ay makakatulong. Magsumikap tayo, tumulong tayo para sa ikauunlad ng bayan. Maraming salamat po at maligayang pasko sa inyong lahat.”

The foundation, composed of 30 major Filipino-Chinese business, civic, and cultural federations, has consistently led efforts to assist communities in crisis. In addition to the Tondo relief drive, it recently provided over ₱60 million worth of rice, sardines, noodles, and other essentials to areas in the Bicol region, provinces, and Metro Manila severely affected by six major typhoons.

As Christmas approaches, the Foundation’s relief operations in Tondo underscore the true essence of the season—love, generosity, and unity—a reminder that collective efforts can bring hope and joy to those in need.
