Rhian Ramos admits almost breaking up with Sam Verzosa because of politics, realizes his sincere heart

Kapuso actress Rhian Ramos is no stranger to taking on impactful roles in both film and television. With every role she portrays, Rhian consistently proves that she is one of the finest actresses in the industry.

During an intimate interview after the press conference for her upcoming movie, Rhian opened up about her evolving perspective on politics, her showbiz career, and her relationship with her politician boyfriend, Sam Verzosa.

On politics and supporting Sam ‘SV’ Verzosa

When asked about politics, Rhian admitted that the idea of being involved in it felt unimaginable, even though her boyfriend Sam Verzosa recently announced his candidacy for Manila mayor.

“Oh my gosh, no! Yun yung [running to politics] pinakamalayong thought sa utak ko… In my head kasi, the way I was growing up, whenever I would hear something about politics in the news it was always a negative piece of news… Naiisip ko, that’s the world that I want to be far from. I don’t want anything to do with it. Because for me, I already feel like showbiz is dirty enough. This is my limit.”

Rhian shared that when Sam first expressed his desire to run for office, she strongly opposed it. She even threatened to end their relationship if he decided to pursue it.

“Sa pinakasimula, nung sinasabi sa akin ni Sam na tatakbo siya for Congress… Ako talaga: ‘No. I will not allow this. Magbe-break tayo!’ As in parang gano’ng level. Naging malaking problema siya.”

Rhian admitted she saw the genuine fulfillment Sam found in helping others and creating positive change through his political work. She eventually came to support him, believing in his sincerity, good intentions, and qualifications.

“Well… hindi ko naman natiis din kasi nakita ko din kung ano yung nakukuha niyang fulfillment from it. I have to be real with myself na that’s a smile that I can never give him. Yung gano’ng klaseng fulfillment from what he does when he helps people and makes changes to make people’s lives better. I can never give him that kind of fulfillment.”

“I think na… kung ano man yung mga dahilan kung ba’t ayaw ko yung politika, wala yon kay Sam. I would not be okay with it unless I truly believe in my heart that his intentions are pure, that his heart is sincere, and he’s serious about wanting to make positive changes. And I also believe that he’s qualified and knows how to do it, because he’s always been a good leader. He’s a good leader for his family, for his companies, all of it. Even if I hate being told what to do, I still trust him to lead me also.”

On marriage and her relationship

At 34, Rhian reflected on her thoughts about marriage and how she’s in no rush to tie the knot with Sam.

“Ever since I was in my teens, yung naisip kong perfect age to get married was 35. And guess what, I’m 34. I mean, I’m not naman saying na, ‘O, game na. Kailangan next year na.’ No. It’s just, for me I feel like I’m not naman in a hurry. I really enjoy yung relationship na meron kami ngayon, kung paano kami ngayon.”

While marriage remains an option, Rhian shared that she feels content and fulfilled in her current relationship.

“Wala akong nararamdaman na may something kulang. Walang kailangang gawin… I’ve never been in a kind of relationship that’s so mutually supportive, [and] loyal… We move like a unit. So, I’m very very grateful for that. And if it happens, then great. And then if it doesn’t happen, it’s okay. Kasi I don’t talaga feel like may nagkukulang sa life,” she continued.

On her showbiz career and upcoming projects

During the said press conference, Rhian also dismissed rumors that she was leaving GMA Network, expressing her excitement for her new role.

“I would just like to confirm that it’s absolutely not true. I am doing a project with the Kapuso Network, it’s called ‘Sanggre: The Encantadia Chronicles’. I’m very excited. They gave me yet again another very challenging, very big, very beautiful role that I’m so proud to have. And I’m happy where I am.”

Rhian will also star in the upcoming drama movie Huwag Mo ‘Kong Iwan alongside JC De Vera, Tom Rodriguez. It its written by Eric Ramos and directed by Joel Lamangan.

The movie, produced by Engr. Benjamin Austria of BenTria Productions and line produced by Dennis Evangelista, will hit cinemas starting November 27.
