For Kapamilya actress Alexa Ilacad, motherhood is something that her new film ‘Mujigae’ made her more aware, but she clarified that it’s not something she’s considering right now or in the near future.
She stars in the comeback offering of UXS (Unitel Straight Shooters) — the family-drama movie ‘Mujigae’ (which means ‘rainbow’ in Korean), alongside Korean actor Kim Ji-soo, and rising child star Ryrie Sophia who plays the titular role.
Alexa Ilacad plays Sunny, the aunt of a five-year-old orphan named Mujigae. Despite being estranged, Sunny becomes a mother figure to Mujigae in the story.
During the press conference on October 2 in a hotel in Quezon City, Alexa Ilacad reflected on the thought of being a mother in the near future.
She said, “Sa totoo lang, medyo namulat din ako sa movie. But of course, right now, that’s not at all something I think about. And not even in the near future.”
Alexa expressed that she wants to focus on building her career, establishing herself, and securing her future, as well as the future of any child she might bring into the world someday.
“I feel like I want to pursue my career muna, of course, and establish myself. And secure myself and the future of the child I might who want to bring to this world. Pero siguro sa malayong-malayong future pa,” she continued.
The other half of the phenomenal #KDLex love team (opposite fellow Star Magic artist KD Estrada) also shared her initial feelings about working with Korean actor and GMA Sparkle artist Ji-Soo, admitting that she felt nervous and intimidated.
“At first, I was a bit nervous and not going to lie. Medyo na-intimidate ako talaga kay Ji-soo, kasi ang tangkad! Hindi ko siya matingnan nang diretso. Kailangan nakatinggala ako,” she quipped.
Despite her nerves, Alexa was also excited about the opportunity, as she knew how professional Korean stars are and this was her first time working with one.
“I was really excited din kasi I know how professional Korean stars are. And I’ve never really worked with anyone na Korean star. So, the first time I met Ji-soo, it was for the look test. So, in a way, sinabak na agad kami sa trial scene without really a formal introduction. So, I was a bit intimidated.
“Pero I saw naman, I saw in his eyes, na open naman siya. So kinapalan ko na yung mukha ko. Kinausap ko. Nakipag-eksena ako sa kanya. And nagbibigay talaga siya. Kahit feeling ko hindi niya ako naiintindihan minsan, nagbibigay talaga siya.”

When asked if KD Estrada would be attending the red carpet event on October 7, Alexa confirmed, “Opo! Pati lahat ng block screening pupunta siya”.
Although they are not working on the same project, they always support each other. She explained, “…What we have is not just for work.” Rufa Mae Quinto jokingly said, “Sana all.”
Alexa continued, “Yung bond na na-build namin, hindi lang siya yung pang-showbiz… Kumbaga kahit hindi na kami mag-artista bukas, nandoon pa rin yung bond na na-build namin.”
She also expressed her deep appreciation for KD’s support.
“Sobra akong thankful. Hindi ko pa man natanggap ‘tong movie na ‘to, naikuwento ko pa lang, siya na yung number one fan na sigurado na siyang ‘Maganda ‘to.’ Na gagalinggan ko talaga. Kung ano yung minsan assurance na wala ako, o yung bilib sa sarili, siya yung nagbibigay n’on, nagsu-supply.”
Written by Mark Raywin Tome and directed by Randolph Longjas, ‘Mujigae’ also stars Richard Quan, Kate Alejandrino, Donna Cariage, Cai Cortez, Roli Inocencio, Anna Luna, Lui Manansala, Peewee O’Hara, and with the special participation of Rufa Mae Quinto. The film opens October 9 exclusively in SM Cinemas.
