The long wait is finally over as the much-awaited Philippine remake of the beloved South Korean drama series ‘Shining Inheritance’ (original title: ‘Brilliant Legacy’) is airing on GMA Afternoon Prime starting September 9 at 4:00 PM.
Veteran actress Ms. Coney Reyes joins Sparkle artists Kyline Alcantara and Kate Valdez in the powerhouse cast of the first-ever K-drama adaptation on GMA Network’s afternoon block.
During the grand media launch where a press conference was held at the German Moreno Studio of GMA Network Annex, the three main ladies of the show gave their thoughts about their shining moments as the matriarch, the main antagonist, and the main protagonist of the show, respectively.
This new series tells the story of a young woman from a wealthy family who unexpectedly loses her wealth and must navigate life’s challenges after her father’s death.
Coney Reyes’ first drama series aired on GMA, and her name has since been associated to the afternoon slot. With this new Kapuso series airing on GMA Afternoon Prime, she considers this as coming full circle in time for her 50th anniversary in showbiz.
Ms. Coney reflected on her career, expressing that her most shining moment is simply being able to continue her work at her age. She said, “I guess, really, what’s in my heart is that ang pinaka-shining moment ko talaga siguro: na hanggang ngayon, nandito pa ako.”
That line made her emotional, noting that she’s always been prone to tears, and felt immensely blessed and thankful to God for allowing her to use her talents even at 71 years old.
“Naiiyak ako. Alam n’yo naman iyakin ako talaga ever since, di ba?…. I’m just so blessed. I feel so grateful that God has allowed me to use what He has given me. What talent He’s given me, now that I’m 71 years old! I just feel so grateful, thankful, blessed. Glory to God talaga sa lahat ng ginawa niya sa career ko,” she continued.

Coming back to portraying the antagonist in a drama series, Kyline Alcantara talked about how she misses portraying complex characters as a “kontrabida.” She said, “I requested sa aking team na magkontrabida ako, because I miss playing a complex role, and Joanna [Kyline’s character] is really complicated.”
Kyline explained that she relates to her character in some ways because, like Joanna, she also shows both her strengths and weaknesses.
“Well, si Joanna, hindi niya rin talaga pinapakita yung weakness niya sa mga tao. In my case, pinapakita ko rin naman yung strengths and weaknesses ko because tao lang din naman ako. At katulad din ni Joanna, tao lang din naman siya. So, in a way, nakaka-relate ako sa kanya, pero hindi sa mga parte na nananakit siya. Siyempre do’n lang sa misjudged, ganyan. Siyempre, bilang artista, hindi rin maiiwasan, hindi po ba?” she added.
Kate Valdez, on another hand, is back as a protagonist following her multiple roles in ‘Unica Hija.’
She explained that she doesn’t focus on the idea of being the main character or worry about being overshadowed by others. Her primary concern is delivering a performance that does justice to her character.
She explained, “Honestly, never naman tumatak sa isip ko na ‘A, bida ako dito, kailangan ganito, kailangan galingan ko.’ Of course, kailangan ko naman talaga galingan para… mabigyan ko ng justice yung character ko.”
Kate also emphasized that she’s not a competitive person by nature and isn’t motivated by fears of being outshone. Instead, her focus is on giving what is required for the role.
“And hindi po ako takot or hindi pumasok sa isip ko – never about ‘A, masasapawan ako,’ kasi hindi siya magandang motivation para mabigay yung kailangan ibigay.
“Kasi, honestly, personally, hindi naman ako competitive na tao. Kung ano yung kailangan ko ibigay, alam ko na nabibigay ko naman yon. Siyempre kung happy ang directors, writers, wala naman problema sa binibigay ko, okay ako do’n, masaya ako do’n.”
Also part of the cast are Aubrey Miles, Roxie Smith, Michael Sager, Paul Salas, Wendell Ramos, Glydel Mercado, Gio Alvarez, Dave Bornea, Jamir Zabarte, Seth Dela Cruz, and Charuth, with the special participation of Ariel Rivera. It is directed by Jorron Lee Monroy.
