Vivamax is all set for the rainy season with two fresh, steamy movies: ‘Himas,’ starring Sahara Bernales, Felix Roco, Zsara Laxamana, MJ Abellera, and directed by Christian Paolo Lat; and ‘Mahal Ko Ang Mahal Mo,’ starring Angelica Hart and Angeline Aril, and directed by Aya Topacio.
Check out these snaps from their back-to-back media conference held at the boardroom of Viva office.
“I actually wanted to achieve—I wanna be honest—I don’t know if tama yung years—70s or 80s bomba films,” direk Christian Paolo Lat shared. “I really wanna recreate that erotic film from back in the 80s. Kasi yung title pa lang, Himas, e. Setting: they call it barriotic, it’s the term they used here.
“And I think, I’m grateful to have these amazing actors. I feel like they delivered that experience, the look, and the feeling… Overall, yung habol ko: to create a very authentic feeling back in the bomba times.”
‘Himas’ tells the story of a woman longing for touch and affection from her husband who finds the satisfaction she desires through a young man who willingly and pleasurably gives it to her.
The film follows Dana (Sahara Bernales) and Ed (Felix Roco), a couple living in a coastal town in a rural area. Despite being married for a long time, they have no children. Ed, a former firefighter, had to stop working after an accident left him blind. This also affected his performance in bed, leaving Dana’s sexual needs unfulfilled.
The couple decides to open a spa, with Ed as the therapist and Dana as the manager. The spa attracts loyal customers, including Ed’s ex-girlfriend, Me-ann (Zsara Laxamana), who persistently tries to seduce Ed but always gets rejected.
Meanwhile, Dana pursues her teaching career, passes the licensure exam, and gets an opportunity to teach at a nearby school. To relieve her duties at the spa, the couple hires a young man named Kokoy (MJ Abellera), who is responsible and hardworking. Kokoy, aspiring to finish his studies, bonds with Dana when she invites him to attend her classes. The two grow closer.
One night, after a heated argument between Ed and Dana, Kokoy comforts Dana, leading to a night of passion. This affair continues, fulfilling Dana’s desires as they make love in various places. Their secret is eventually discovered by Me-ann, who catches them in the act. What will happen when Me-ann tells Ed about the affair? Will he believe her or blindly trust his wife?
On the other hand, ‘Mahal Ko Ang Mahal Mo’ revolves around two women who meet because of their love for the same man but end up being interested in each other.
During the mediacon, Direk Aya revealed how much of her own personal experiences take the shape of his GL-themed movie (girls’ love).
When asked about the future of this subgenre as opposed to the more commonly explored BL (boys’ love) in films and series, this was what she had to say:
“Sa ‘kin, may future [ang market ng GL (girls’ love) stories]. Basta mas i-develop pa natin yung stories kasi—Naniniwala kasi ako doon sa istorya talaga yung pinapanood, the content ang pinapanood ng audience natin, lalo na ngayon [na] ang daming social media platforms. Better we explore it, and pakapalin pa natin, palawakin pa natin, meron talaga siyang future.”
The story of their film ‘Mahal Ko ang Mahal Mo’ follows Leslie, who has been dating her happy-go-lucky boyfriend Khalil for three years. Despite Khalil’s reputation as a ladies’ man, Leslie remains committed. However, everything changes when Camille confronts Leslie at work, revealing that she is also in a relationship with Khalil. Realizing Khalil has been cheating on and manipulating both of them, Leslie and Camille bond over their shared anger.
They devise a plan to humiliate Khalil for his lies and infidelity. As they spend more time together, they grow closer and eventually find themselves attracted to each other. Their relationship evolves into a playful and lustful friends-with-benefits arrangement.
How will Khalil react when he finds out that his two girlfriends are now cheating on him together? What will become of Leslie and Camille’s relationship? Is it just fun and games, or will deeper feelings develop?
