Famous artists joined Sen. Robin Padilla in advocating for responsible gun ownership during a four-day shootfest at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Supporting the shootfest were his wife, Mariel Rodriguez, along with others celebrities including Karla Estrada, Rommel Padilla, Dennis Padilla, Janno Gibbs, Cesar Montano, Nadia Montenegro, Carmela Ford (sister of Daniel Padilla), Eric Nicolas and more.
During the press conference on May 5, Senator Robin Padilla explained the purpose behind the event and its significance. He highlighted that the shootfest served as a joyful gathering, uniting civilians and defenders of the nation, including the Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police, to discuss responsible gun ownership.
“Isa itong masayang…pagbubuklod ng mga sibilyan at ng mga bayani ng bayan.. kasama na siyempre ang Sandatahang Lakas at ang Philippine National Police. Kasama natin sila pag pinag-uusapan natin yung pagiging responsible sa pagdadala ng baril,” said Robin Padilla.
Mariel Rodriguez also expressed her support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of proper gun handling and the awareness raised by the event. She highlighted the cup as a positive symbol and stressed its role in promoting responsible firearm usage, especially for protection.
She said, “Syempre, full support tayo diyan. This cup for me is very nice. I feel that it raises awareness na may proper handling ng paggagamit ng guns.
“For [our family], it’s really for protection talaga,” she added.
Karla Estrada echoed Mariel’s sentiments, emphasizing the familial aspect of the event. She expressed full support, viewing it as an opportunity for families to come together and learn about firearm safety, ultimately easing parental concerns about their children’s safety.
“This is actually for the family,” she shared. “Anytime for the family e support. Maganda ‘to kasi ang daming pwede nating matulungan. For me, ito yung pinakamabisang pwede ding gawin na yung mga anak natin ay matuto… Para tayong mga magulang hindi nag-aalala tuwing wala sila sa tabi natin.”
For Senator Padilla, the aspiration is to effectively change civilians’ perspectives on firearms, shifting them away from viewing guns solely as instruments of violence and towards recognizing their utility as tools for self-protection.
Organized by the PMA Banyuhay Class of 2002, the shootfest garnered a total of P800,000 in funds allocated towards scholarships designated for rebel returnees. Participants contributed to this noble cause by remitting a registration fee of P2,500.
