In a gesture of gratitude towards Filipino war veterans and retired personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. made a visit to the Renal Dialysis Center of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC). During his visit, he not only acknowledged their sacrifices but also made a significant contribution of PhP150 million towards the acquisition of a state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.
The Renal Dialysis Center at VMMC plays a crucial role in the lives of over 200 patients, including World War II veterans, retired military personnel, and their dependents. Offering free services and medicines, this center, staffed by a dedicated team of nine doctors and 27 nurses, is a beacon of hope for those in need. With plans for expansion to accommodate more hemodialysis patients and the establishment of a kidney transplantation center in the pipeline, VMMC aims to enhance the quality of life for its patients.
The timely donation from President Marcos Jr. couldn’t have come at a better moment. With the sole MRI machine acquired in 2011 now unserviceable, the Department of National Defense (DND) sought funding for a 1.5-Tesla MRI machine. This advanced equipment will not only aid in accurate diagnosis but also revolutionize the treatment of critical cases, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care.
Established in 1955 through United States Public Law No. 865, the VMMC stands as a testament to the commitment of providing quality healthcare to Filipino war veterans and retired AFP personnel. With a capacity of 766 beds and a dedicated team of 1,562 personnel, the VMMC served nearly 9,000 in-patients and over 230,000 outpatients last year alone. Beyond medical services, the center is actively engaged in education and outreach programs, underscoring its mission to serve the community.
By combining philanthropy with innovation, President Marcos Jr. and the VMMC are not only honoring the legacy of our veterans but also paving the way for a healthier and brighter future for all.
