‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’: A frosty reunion with missed opportunities

‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,’ directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman, invites us back into the world of ghost-busting with familiar faces and heartwarming memories. This installment marks the fifth film in the Ghostbusters franchise, following the previous one released three years ago.

The Spengler family, led by Carrie Coon as Callie Spengler, Finn Wolfhard as Trevor Spengler, and Mckenna Grace as Phoebe Spengler, shines with their on-screen chemistry, bringing warmth to the supernatural chaos. Paul Rudd adds charm as Gary, Callie’s boyfriend and a father figure to Trevor and Phoebe.

While the film’s nods to its predecessors are nice, the comedy sometimes falls short or gets lost in a mix of serious moments. With so many characters, including original Ghostbusters cast members, it’s easy to lose track, making the plot less clear.

The idea of an ancient artifact causing chaos is interesting, and the teamwork between the old and new Ghostbusters sounds exciting.

However, the execution doesn’t quite match the hype, lacking the same excitement as other big movies. This might be disappointing for newcomers to the franchise.

Overall, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” has its moments but misses some chances to shine. While it’s a treat for longtime fans, it falls short of capturing the magic that could justify more sequels in the future.
