Award-winning teen actress Jhassy Busran continues to captivate audiences and make waves in the film industry. Her latest triumph comes with the including of her 2021 short film “Pugon” for Industry Screening (Non-Competition) at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Marche Du Film (Film Market) in France. Additionally, she gears up to showcase her talent in the upcoming short “Ang Huling Sayaw Ni Erlinda,” where she shares the screen with veteran actor Rez Cortez.
In a recent interview during the birthday celebration this April 2 of director Gabby Ramos (for his birthday on April 4), whom she has worked with multiple times, Jhassy expressed her gratitude upon learning about the new feat of “Pugon.”

She conveyed, “I’m very thankful and very happy na isa kami sa napagbigyan. I’m looking forward na dumating na yung araw ng mismong event.”
Top-billed by Soliman Cruz, “Pugon” tells the story of Sonia (played by Jhassy), a 14-year-old girl full of dreams, who thrown into pawnshop slavery to pay off the debt of her poor parents. After months of servitude under a tyrannical employer, Sonia is forcedly pawned back into labor to pay for the expenses of her father’s funeral.
“Pugon” is scheduled to be screened on May 22, 5PM, at Palais G screening room, Palais Des Festivals et des Congres, 1 Boulevard de La Croisette, 06400 Cannes, France.
Jhassy’s journey to success reached new heights when she was awarded Best Actress for her remarkable performance in “Pugon.” She has long since awarded with over a dozen of awards and recognitions.
Reflecting on yet another achievement, she emphasized how the film has opened countless doors for her career. “Yung Pugon kasi ang pinakanag-open ng napakaraming pinto sa career ko simula nang nanalo ako ng [una kong] Best Actress. Ang dami nang nagtiwala sa akin, nakakilala… Ang daming pintuan talagang nagbukas and I’m very happy na until now umaarangkada pa rin ang Pugon,” she shared.

Furthermore, Jhassy credited director Gabby Ramos for his invaluable guidance and support during production. “Hindi niya ako pinabayaan. Ramdam na ramdam ko yung guidance niya sa akin,” she revealed.
Describing their working relationship, she added, “Hindi na basta director sa akin si Direk Gab. Para ko na rin siyang tatay. Siya ang naggagabay sa akin sa path na ‘to. Si Direk kasi, pag nakakasama mo talaga siya, pag trabaho ay trabaho. Pero pag walang trabaho, para kayong magtropa. Hindi ko na-feel sa kanya na baguhan ako nung nag-shoot kami…”
