Review: ‘Marita’ offers jump scares as ‘new face of horror’

Meet the new face of horror, ‘MARITA,’ based on true events about a famous theater actress who committed suicide during a live performance. This curious story stars Louise Delos Reyes and Rhen Escano, and produced by Viva Films and Studio Viva.

Rhen Escano brings the tale to life, creating intensity and keeping you on edge in her role as Marita. Inspired by real-life events, ‘MARITA’ unfolds Marita’s story, once celebrated as one of the greatest actresses in university theater productions. However, her satisfaction turned to displeasure when younger and more talented actors joined, displacing her from the limelight. Viewing them as competitors, Marita refused to be forgotten and, in a shocking turn of events, gave one last performance—she committed suicide in front of the audience.

Viva Films and Studio Viva worked together to give ‘MARITA’ a unique vibe, making it more than a usual scary flick. Written and directed by Roni S. Benaid, who also penned and helmed the recent horror hit ‘MARY CHERRY CHUA,’ this new offering takes you on a suspenseful journey, keeping you intrigued in each jump scare.
