Arci Muñoz to go to Korea, be paired with K-drama actor for Njel De Mesa’s rom-com film ‘Jeju Vu’

Arci Muñoz is set to do a movie with award-winning director-writer-producer Njel De Mesa who has devotedly hailed her as “The Muse of Philippine Cinema.” The two will work together in the romantic comedy ‘Jeju Vu,’ not just as an actress-and-director tandem but also on the artistic direction of the project.

Arci is also the creative director of Jeju Vu. The principal photography starts this April 2023. During the press conference this March 22 at the office of NDMStudios, Arci Muñoz was asked how she felt that she is bound to do projects in South Korea, given that she is one of the local artists who are self-confessed big fans of K-pop. Their tandem will also shoot for their travel show.

“Hindi ko po namamalayan na gano’n na pala. For me, importante na nagagawa ko [kung] ano [ang] nagpapasaya sa akin talaga. I’m just really passionate about it, and anything naman po, kaya kami din gumawa ng travel show, I want to learn different culture.”

As for Direk Njel De Mesa, he shared the same level of excitement for this movie project. “Quirky ito! …Fantastical yung nangyayari do’n sa panaginip e!”

Arci, on another hand, looks forward to everything about their shooting. “This is something na I really love,” she said. “So hindi ako makapaghintay. It’s gonna be my first time to be in Jeju. I’ve never been to Jeju.”

#JejuVu is set in South Korea that features beautiful attractions in Jeju Island. The story is about two lovers who only meet each other in their dreams but end up in search of each other during their waking hours. They desperately try to find clues to determine each other’s whereabouts but their plans are constantly foiled by mundane activities and realities during their waking hours. Arci continued, “Siguro ito yung right time for me to go there… so, excited ako about everything. About the story that I want to share to the audience, to all my K-drama co-lovers, and my co-Armies (referring to her fellow fans of global Korean superstar BTS).

“Yung mga taong nagme-message sa akin ng ‘Sana all nasa Korea,’ gusto ko sila dalhin do’n,” she quipped.

She also teased about the Korean actor she will be paired with. “I’m also looking forward to working with another actor na hindi Pilipino.” They described the actor they are eyeing to collaborate with as “one of the highest paid actors in Korea.”

Who could his Korean leading man be? We’ll find out soon on the next media conference of NDMStudios.
Direk Njel De Mesa’s JEJU VU is slated for release in September 2023.
