Movie Review: ‘Deleter’ brings out the best of Nadine Lustre

We watched the private advance screening of DELETER with high expectations. It takes pride in having many firsts: director Mikhail Red‘s first project with Viva Films, Nadine Lustre’s first horror film, and it’s the first time for the cast members to work together. Not to mention, it is the only horror film in this year’s lineup of entries. Thing is we were not disappointed at all.

The concept alone is interesting enough as it features the story of a social media content moderator, which is based on a real-life job. Thanks to the eerie musical scoring (*wink*) and cool sound effects throughout the movie, one could enjoy the crazy feeling of getting spooked every now and then.

Nadine Lustre is not Nadine Lustre if not for her competence. Deleter could be her most mature film to date in terms of acting. Director Mik has brought out a skillful Nadine making the most out of the techno-horror subgenre.

Mccoy De Leon, Louise Delos Reyes, and Jeffrey Hidalgo are good supporting actors that have their special moments in the story. As they all interact with Nadine being the lead star, everyone gives their own share of talents. Even the performances of the bit players are something to watch out for!

Horror films have a good reputation at the MMFF so it wouldn’t be a surprise if it does well at the box office — most especially because it’s that time of the year once again that local movies are celebrated and shown in every single regular theater in the country. As patrons flock to the theaters this Christmas, it’s a good reminder to bring back the communal experience of reacting to a movie inside a dark room with rows of fellow spectators.

Bring your family and friends to watch this Christmas season to experience the scare, the tension, and the best of President Nadine (as she is fondly called by her fans) in her much-anticipated big screen comeback!
